Friendly Fire Series Presents: Feminism and its Effect on the Family in America
with Political Activist and Leader of the Conservative Movement Phyllis Schlafly
Wednesday, April 30th at 8:00pm in 312 Mathematics Building

Sponsored by the Columbia Political Union
Co-sponsored by the Columbia University College Republicans

"Phyllis Schlafly has been a national leader of the conservative movement since the publication of her best-selling 1964 book, A Choice Not An Echo. She has been a leader of the pro-family movement since 1972, when she started her national volunteer organization now called Eagle Forum. In a ten-year battle, Mrs. Schlafly led the pro-family movement to victory over the principal legislative goal of the radical feminists, called the Equal Rights Amendment. An articulate and successful opponent of the radical feminist movement, she appears in debate on college campuses more frequently than any other conservative. She was named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century by the Ladies' Home Journal."

Thanks, Sign Off, and Announcement of the New Executive Board To all our members who attended our events,
From the most well known speakers to the most obscure panels,
From our debate and movie screenings in the fall,
To Mike Gravel and the watch parties in the spring,
From Natalie Portman to Terry McAuliffe and now to Phyllis Schlafly,
And to all those who read our magazine, the Columbia Political Review,
picked up our election guide, signed up to vote, joined a campaign,
and gained something from CPU's efforts to bring political discussion to this campus,
and to the many many deputies, authors, and members that worked so hard to make it all possible,
I thank you on behalf of the entire board for all your participation.
You drive us to continue and improve upon what we do.

It has been such a tremendous privilege serving as General Manager this year and being a part of the board for 4 years, in a group whose rare principle of promoting politics of all sides is one that I adore and appreciate more than I can say.

Finally, it is my pleasure to announce the 2008-2009 CPU Executive Board, elected by our Governing Board in one of the most contested elections in our organization's history. Our new Executive Board reflects a great promise for bringing the best publications and events to Columbia in this pivotal election year. under the new leadership of Nick Shea.
